The Case of the Missing Lunch

When I was a child, I was obsessed with reading the Nancy Drew Mystery Series. That is why when presented with this amazing opportunity for sleuthing, I am so intrigued.

Over the past couple of days we have been having a major problem with what I am terming the “Lunch Bandit”. A co-worker was selling sub sandwiches for his child’s fundraiser and he delivered all of these sandwiches early last week. They were all in paper grocery bags with the name of the owner clearly marked on the outside. One of the recipients of the sandwiches was on vacation last week and had ordered 6 subs. When he returned to work yesterday he delightfully opened his bag only to find 3 subs. Someone had taken half of his purchase! Another co-worker found half of his subs missing this morning as well. This may seem like something that is commonplace at a lot of companies but we literally have only 20 employees. Only half of that number actually use the break room. This isn’t some anonymous victimless heist. This is personal!

Now, I can’t help but postulate as to who is responsible. Who is this “Lunch Bandit” and how do we stop him?! Accusations are being thrown around, mud is being slung and everyone is a suspect. Everyone except the female employees and the victims, of course. Unless one of the so-called victims is hiding his own subs to make it seem as if he is innocent as well. Very clever…very clever.

As discussed with my boss, we almost don’t want to know who is responsible. We’ll never be able to look at that person the same again. Lunches at work are sacred and should NEVER be tampered with. The lunch break is the shining beacon of light in the middle of the work day and to find half of it missing is just devastating.

Several plans of action are coursing through my brain and you better believe I am on the case!

Not on my watch!
